Food Fight

Thursday night I made the boys a strawberry shortcake for dessert-just a little round cake, fresh strawberry, and of course cool whip. The cool whip definitely a hit!! They must get that from me!

There was not enough songs or rhymes to entertain us last week. It rained, what felt like non-stop, for 4 days. Luckily now the forecast is showing a warm up and some sun. To busy ourselves we made a fort. Apparently I need some practice in this area-it had a hard time staying together. I remember building them at mawmaw's house with the kitchen chairs. Oh, maybe that's where I went wrong...I should have used more furniture.

Picnic Lunch

It seems so odd posting about our picnic lunch last week when today it is FREEZING!!! We have had a 40 degree change in temperature over the last few days-so glad all those shorts I just got Connor are being utilized. I know in just a few shorts weeks I will be complaining about the Texas heat!!

This day, however, was perfect. If I lived somewhere that had this sunny 80 degree weather year round, I would be in heaven. We originally were going to go to the park for our picnic, but opted to try out our new picnic table instead. It was a bit windy but other than that, it was fabulous! I foresee many meals out here in the near future.

Monday was Connor's BFF K's (Haley's) actual birthday. He had just been to her party on Sunday. Since they are fairly new to town they have not made it to the zoo yet. Her mom took the day off work to take her and asked us if we wanted to tag along. I have not had any one on one time with Connor in a while, so I opted to let him skip school (ok it's mother's day out-not like they are looking for perfect attendance there) and we went. Besides we just paid big bucks for an annual membership and I intend to get my moneys worth!!

The leaves and and sticks were much more interesting this time! We had to talk about elephant poop to get their attention. Can you name a 3 year old that won't come running to look at poop? We braved it with no strollers so it certainly took a while. We stayed only on the south side, but did manage to walk that entire area in the 3 hours we were there.

On Sunday, Connor had a hot date with Haley (AKA "K")for her birthday party. I had to work at PB that afternoon so unfortunately I had to miss the festivities. Mark had to take both the boys to a 3 year old girl's birthday party where he knew NO ONE! I was a little concerned, but he survived- and Connor had a GREAT time.

Funny Sayings

At nearly 3, Connor can certainly keep me laughing with the crazy things he says (his mis-sayings really). I need to write them down more so I can actually remember them correctly. His latest fetish is changing clothes and changing again and again and again. I can't keep up with the laundry because he is going through several outfits a day, which I do find so humorous for someone who likes to be naked as much as he does. I will put him to bed in one pair of pajamas and when he gets up he is in another. Sometimes during all the exchanges things get turned inside out.

The dress up time was great! Connor was the cutest cowboy there....well it might be a toss up between him and Colton-but the Lenzer boys took the prize. OK I'm partial so shoot me! Connor slept in the boots. He also informed me this morning, after I told him to sit down for pushing Colton, that cowboys don't have timeout. We had a hotdog lunch at school, then the students put on a song and dance. As usual, Connor got all shy and would have nothing to do with the performance. If only the teachers could see him at home- singing and dancing his heart out. Colton even felt the beat a little today and joined the group. Maybe he will be the performer of the family.

Tomorrow is Texas day at Connor's school. The parents are invited to a BBQ lunch and the kids will be singing Texas songs (which ever ones those are). They are encouraged to dress up in boots and hats. I did not want to buy these just for this occasion, so I have been racking my brain trying to think who would have boots and hats. Then it dawned on me, Denise. She had already given us some wrangler jeans(which are about the cutest things ever) and I remembered her telling us she made a cowboy outfit for Jake. So we went by her house today to borrow a few things. I will have to buy boots now because Connor has refused to take them off from the moment he first laid eyes on them. He even slept in them.

New Cars Bedding

A few months after Connor got his big boy bed I debated long and hard on bedding. I wanted to get him something that would last, from a quality stand point, and that would grow with him. I went with a sports quilt. I had yet to get him a comforter and shams to go with it. I had just not wanted to spend the money. However I was tired of looking at his incomplete room. I had been eyeing a khaki comforter from Target so I took the boys Christmas money and was going to get it and a bedskirt to finish up his room. When I went to work a couple of weekends ago I bought the shams to match the quilt. When I picked up Connor from school on Friday we were headed to Target. I even brought one of the shams to make sure everything matched. We went first down the kids room DIY isle at Connor's request. BIG MISTAKE!!! He spotted a Cars, the movie, comforter. The he found the Cars sheets, the nice polyester sand paper sheets. I tried to reason with him for 20 minutes. I offered to buy him a Cars fleece blanket, also there on the isle looking so small in size, that he could carry around on the couch or when he visits moms and pops if he would just get the nice comforter to go with his very nice, very expensive quilt that mommy debated on for months!! He never threw a fit or acted ugly but he knew what he wanted and he was a persistent little fellow ( a trait that will do him justice later in life I know). About that time, another lady walked down the isle and said to me "you're never going to win this one". I knew she was right. So the quilt goes in the closet for later or who knows maybe Colton will use it.

So we left Target with a cars comforter, a bedskirt (which I think I will exchange for a different color-not loving it on the bed) and sheets. At least we were able to get more for less.

We came home and put the comforter on the bed-it was love at first site, for Connor not me. I told him we had to wash the sheets first. That took some convincing but he helped me load the washer. Then he literally paced the laundry room...is it time yet? is it time yet? Everytime the washer changed cycles (and there is a slight pause) he thought they were done. The drying must have felt like a lifetime to him. Finally the bed was made-he went to bed at 6pm!!! The cutest part was I could not throw out the cardboard picture that comes in the plastic bag with the comforter. He slept with that for 2 nights.

I tried taking a picture of the boys together to update the header on the blog (in the egg just like the one that's up now). Getting the boys to look at the camera at the same time is next to impossible, and forget about 2 simultaneous smiles!! This one is about as good as it gets.

Thursday was a beautiful and extra warm day in February so we decided it would be a great zoo day. I knew that when Connor woke up at 6am (an entire hour early) that it would be an interesting outing. Our first stop at the zoo is generally the children's area with the play ground and some smaller animals. We did not stop to play long because we wanted to see a few animals before all crabbiness took over. Next stop...TIGER!!! We couldn't see him last time, but this day he was right out front and it was amazing for Connor to see. I believe he could have sat in front of the viewing area the entire time. He had been telling me for 2 days, ever since I told him we were going to the zoo, that he wanted to see the tiger. He actually wanted to see 2 tigers, 1 for him and 1 for K (Haley) in the water. Unfortunately the zoo only has 1 tiger but he seemed quite content with that. We also visited the rhinos and the kangaroos, now known as the monkey-roos. It was a short visit this time...next trip we focus on the gorillas.
